M.A.N.I.A.C

Full stops in the track's title imply that M.A.N.I.A.C has a much larger meaning and I don't know about you but I'd love to know what it is... Maybe it's a trick and I've completely fallen for a clever marketing ploy. Either way, I load the track with the eagerness of a six year kid unwrapping his first Star Wars action figures...

Infectious Sins

Mesquitas-Sway The introduction starts a bit slow but transitions into a very funky and chunky, vocal and snake charming, vibe. It really makes you feel nice and numb. Sway also gives you that tribal trance feel that is always nice. Overall I give it a 9.0 out of 10 and the only thing I would work on is the beginning. This track has all the goodies. Phat beats, tribal trance, vocals, and length. Nice Job.

Technasia, aka Charles Siegling, is back with his first single taken from the forthcoming studio album Central (out end of May). Originally Technasia was a duo formed in 1996 consisting of Paris based Siegling and Hong Kong based Amil Khan. In 2008, Khan left to focus on his family leaving Siegling to focus on further productions under the Technasia moniker.

Sin Qua Non

'A Disquiet Follows My Soul' starts out as a techhouse type of track but as soon as the mesmerizing synth kicks in, it becomes more of a spacey house track, perfect for the end of a hot summer day. A short vocal sample is used, but not repetitively, just every once in a while. The track brings across a laid back vibe, the kind of vibe you'd like to have when you're dancing around barefoot during a party in the park or on the beach. The spacey synths and warm rhodes make you want to close your eyes, and surrender to the music. Throughout the track multiple samples are used such as an occasional tambourine and the vocal, which makes the track less predictable and more exciting to listen to.

Rock You All Night Long

What can you say about Sander Kleinenberg? We all know him, well all love him and we all know that over the years his sound has become synonymous with a funky electro house that only he can pull off. Not only that, he pretty much Pioneers the whole DVJ era so when you listen and judge his latest, Rock You All Night Long, you can't judge it like any other house track - Rather, you have to view it as more of an audio/visual experience, just like you do when you see Justin Timberlakes new video and it actually improves your impression of the track before you experienced the visual interpretation.

Mode EP

Danny Ward aka Moodymanc's got a lot of fans within the UK's underground house scene, which on the strength of this EP is not surprising. Sick dance-floor house escapades which reflect Danny's background as a jazz drummer (but without any silly noodling nonsense). Solid.

Gadi Mizrahi is one half of the much-feted Wolf + Lamb duo, whose music and parties are so much a part of the dance music renaissance that seems to be happening in NYC. Here we have two tracks that showcase the deep house sound that powers the Wolf + Lamb family, both harking back to the past to make music for the future. Sure to be big - but is it just the hype?

Alpha / Omega

In the fine tradition of techno innovators soundtracking classic films (see Jeff Mills and Fritz Lang's Metropolis and Laurent Garnier and Jean Epstein's Finis Terrae) this is Robert Hood's take on 1971's Omega Man. Or rather it's a sample of Mr Hood's new album, which is inspired by the classic film which memorably starred Charlton Heston. Like storming techno, love this.

Hip-house hell or something far more subtle? Well, it looks like we're going to find out DJ Hell and Bryan Ferry? Sounds daft, doesn't it...? Well, it does until you think about the fact that about every electronic artist of a certain age (This means you, Helmut) had a love affair with the music of Roxy Music in their youth. So that explains one side of the hook-up. And the other? Well, in Mr Ferry's own words, 'It's always a pleasure to work with people from that genre [dance music], who follow a singular groove.'

Not Sure About Logic Anymore

Italian-based producers Domino bring a taste of their intriguing Italian sound to U.S. based Star 69 Records in their latest release "Not Sure About Logic Anymore". The focus of the release is a haunting vocal by Dino Lenny (reminiscent of classic Loco Dice) surrounded by a series of powerful underground beats and melodic percussion loops that would damage any late night dance-floor. On the remix side, Charlie Solana's "Tech'd Out Remix" is a heavy stunner that adds a driving riff and takes it down an even darker notch than the original. Zoltan Kontes and Jerome Robbins also come strong and manage to add a mix that dramatizes the vocals more than any other mix. Nikos Maridikis also adds his minimal-tech touch to complete the package. I give this package a 9 overall for the great remix package and the unique sound.

Nicolas Jaar: Time For Us EP

Apparently this lovely release was crafted while Mr Jaar was living in the MarcyHotel, Wolf + Lamb's deceptively-named party house and label HQ. Well, something certainly helped the young Chilean New Yorker capture the sonic serenity contained here, that's for sure. Both tracks are certainly part of the 'deeper the better' musical philosophy that Wolf + Lamb encourage amongst their crew, which made their music so very popular last year.

Destroy The Disco (Unmixed)

After a scorching summer from the Hed Kandi team, they return in this bitter cold winter with a brand new concept album, designed to bring a spanking new dimension to their sounds and most importantly banish those winter blues. The new album comes complete with a new Sin City in a sensual style artwork by Jason Brooks and comic strip in the inside booklet, with the blazing, passion-full amorous colour red being the primary element throughout. Destroy The Disco is not your customary sweetened release, this is all about the dark, moody and fiery side of Hed Kandi.

Tj Kong: Serenade EP

Four:Twenty is one of the UK's most reliable underground house labels, a boast borne out by this, their first release of 2010. TJ Kong is a name you might know from his work with the Compost label, but here on Four:Twenty he's in the mood for a little variety. There's everything from quality deepness to 90s NYC-style house here, plus a little tracky synthness too.
