Samsung UE590 vs Asus PB287Q 4k Monitor Review and Comparison

Posted by on Mar 6, 2016 in Dance With Us, Equipment |

1: Why is the UE590 so inexpensive? Are there issues with this model that has driven the price down?

A: Actually, I’m surprised at the $400 price tag on this 28” 4K monitor myself. However, it is 28” and not a larger monitor such as a 40”, which would double or triple the price.
This monitor is surprisingly excellent without any real issues. It is a true 3840 x 2160, 4K Ultra HD TV with excellent picture and has features for your computer that any user will love. There are no current issues driving down the price, but it does use an LED screen, which can lower the price a bit.

2: What is the short of it in terms of the specifications that make this monitor great?

A: The Samsung U28E590D has a 28” LED screen; has a 4K (3840 x 2160) UHD-Quad HD monitor; has a high glossy black finish; a sharper viewing angle; 1 billion colors to experience, 8 million pixels crammed inside the 28” screen for incredible realism; it contains AMD FreeSync which provides a 1ms response time, which is incredible and lightning-fast; offers Mega dynamic contrast ratio; includes PIP 2.0 (picture-in-picture) for multi-tasking; a static contrast ratio of 1,000: 1; TN display type; includes 2 HDMI inputs, 1 Display port, 1 headphone input; and is affordable.

3: What exactly is AMD FreeSync?

A: FreeSync is made by AMD, a graphics company. What it does to this monitor is gif it the 1ms response time. It does this by syncing the screen refresh rate with the frame rate of your content (such as a game or film), in order to minimize lagging—this dramatically reduces image stuttering and what they call “tearing” in games.

The 1ms response is some of the fastest on-screen motion you can get on a 4K monitor, and it smoothly and clearly offers a picture-perfect on-screen motion with less motion blur or ghosting. This all allows users to have a steady visual experience and experience their gameplay at a higher level. The FreeSync is actually really impressive on this monitor, and I would recommend this 4K monitor to any gamer.

Asus PB287Q

1: Should I buy this 28” model or should I buy a larger monitor? Does this small size affect the 4K in a bad way?

A: The size of monitor you want should depend on your usage and preference. If you already have a 27” or 28” monitor in 1080p and are looking to upgrade to 4K, this is a reasonably priced monitor from a well-respected brand. If you are jumping from a 27” 1080p monitor to wanting a 40” 4K monitor, it may look huge and blow you away at first.

If you are worried about the 28” size affecting the 4K resolution, don’t worry. Asus has perfected the screen they offer in this monitor, giving you a sharp, 4K (3840 x 2160) Ultra High Resolution display at 60 Hz. This is 4x the pixilation of 1080p. You do not need to buy a larger monitor if you don’t want to under the belief that the 4K is better suited to it.

2: Is this model good for gaming?

A: The Asus PB287Q has an incredible 1ms response time which along with the 60 Hz, allows for a quick refresh rate and excellent framerates for gamers and users who like to stream movies. This Asus model features Asus-exclusive SplendedPlus, GamePlus, VividPixel, and QuickFit technologies. The built-in DisplayPort and 2 HDMI ports allow for true 4K gaming. The display is 3840 x 2160—if the game is running in 4K, the monitor will display it in 4K.

The stand is ergonomic and has tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustment functions that are great for gamers to adjust to their liking. The style is a bit unassuming, much like the Dell monitors are, with a simple black framing and rather normal stand. However, once this display is turned on, it amazes both visually and in performance. At a cost of around $430 to $500 (which is the retail price), this is a difficult monitor to pass up.

3: What 4K monitor surpasses this in both price and performance?

A: Personally, the Samsung UE590 Ultra HD-Quad HD Monitor actually surpasses this model in performance and even price. Unbelievably, this Samsung model matches the Asus monitor at 28” and 4K resolution, but it does have superior features that should be looked at.

First, is the weight: The Samsung UE590 4K weighs only 11.61 pounds. The Asus PB287Q 4K (what we are comparing) is a heavy 17.41 pounds. Weight is not something one usually thinks about when buying a monitor, but it is an important aspect. The Samsung is more portable, easier to mount on a wall, and easier to move around to daisy-chain for work or gaming purposes.

And finally, the price of the Samsung beats out the Asus, at a price of $399.99 versus Asus’ $430-$500. Overall, the Samsung UE590 4K beats out the performance and price of the Asus PB287Q 4K.
