The recently established Narrominded label is rapidly making a name for itself in the field of leftfield electronics. The Dutch label has been releasing a couple of LPs and albums that vary from breakcore to smooth ambient, plus a few special projects such as the Retro Retry series. The second instalment sees a batch of underground artists covering Brian Eno's 1975 album Another Green World. Eclecticism, in a truly underground manner, is what it's all about. Tasty.

The project may sound a bit pretentious at first. We all know that takes on legendary albums often result in disappointments, but this is definitely not the case on this compilation. Musically, the album shifts from deep dark and trippy ambient to spooky breakcore, house and, most importantly, electronica. The album opens with the entrancing Sky Saw by Rotterdam act FFF, effectively marking the out-of-the-ordinary-sound of the album as a whole. After the demented beats of Polycorn, one of the most renowned artists of the Dutch electro scene steps up to present his take on St. Elmo's Fire. Chunky beats and percussion are combined to vocoded vocals and somewhat spooky child choir vox, delivering one of the most odd but also one of the most exciting tunes on the comp. Its follow-up, produced by one of 365Mag's most favorite artists Legowelt, packs a similar punch in terms of experimental song structures, with the prodigy adding several layers of his trademarked synthesizers to the beats. Another highlight is Little Fishes by Nanko, a very melodic and deep tune reminiscing of Newworldacquarium's most dubby work. The album continues with brilliant ambient by Hakki Takki and Puin+Huip, after which the album ends with the Italo-esque electropop of Hunter Complex and their tune Everything Merges With The Night, a tune that balances on the borders between Kraftwerk (vocals) and an indie version of Depeche Mode.

Retro Retry 2: Another Green World is a daring but intriguing take on Eno's seminal classic album, and a recommendation to all indie electronica lovers. Each artist has managed to present a selfwise version of a track, and the diversity in artists make this a very diverse and colourful album. Whereas lots of compilations tend to result in shallow a dime a dozen releases, this one actually takes the listener down an intriguing trip through the depths of electronica in its best form.
