This is about as diverse a vinyl pack can get. You have everything from atmospheric break-beat, to driving techno, to groovy, trippy house. There is plenty of atmosphere, melody and acid for everyone. It is a good reflection of James's love of things that are twisted, and things that are beautiful. Often times, I'm disappointed by these compilation vinyl packs, because they often include the big tracks that are readily available on their own, and the real goodies are left off. Not the case here! There is something for everyone; how much of it you can play depends on how adventurous you are and what kind of mood you like to set.

PJ Davy- "Freezing Point" (Dave Robertson's Frozen Remix)

This is a dark and moody one. A brooding monster, if you will. I love it! Basically, it's a dark, driving chugger with a killer bass-line. If you like it evil and trippy, this one's for you. These names may be new to you, but watch out; PJ Davy and Dave Robertson are both going places.

Bermuda Triangle- "Tay do 22"

Bermuda has a knack for making emotionally moving, beautiful tracks, and this is no exception. This is a luscious break-beat track. It has a beautiful little melody, and it is nice and atmospheric. There are lots of harmonies coming together nicely between the main melody, the synths and the bass-line. Towards the end, there are even some nice angelic female wailings. What more could you ask for? Absolutely gorgeous.

Dave Robertson- "Slang for Funky"

I've been a fan of Dave Robertson ever since I heard this very tune of one of James's groovetech shows about 6 months ago. It's nice and upbeat, builds gradually, and has a lot of nice elements that blend perfectly. Good percussion here. It has a nice understated touch of acid. It puts me in a good mood.

Animated- "Come On"

This one is pretty mental; the main elements of the track are sirens and spaced out noises that sound like record scratching from Another Planet. The second melody works nicely towards the end of the track. But to be honest, I'm not too crazy about this one. It works well on the CD, but this one is a bit much for my taste. If you get away with playing this somewhere, the place will go nuts... but you do run the risk of sending people fleeing from the dance-floor. Use with caution!

Simon & Levin- "Gone"

I love this track. It's the perfect set opener or closer. Beautiful melody and a beat that's chugging yet easygoing that comes in nice and easy. An understated euphoria factory.

Ebon "Sleepless 2" (Original Tribal Mix)

This one is rocking! Stabbing bass-line, really nice shuffly percussion, and cool echoing vocals. But that's only the beginning... it breaks into this awesome tribal break-beat and chanting, and proceeds into a sick breakdown. This is one to get lost in.

Bushwacka!- "Break your Face"

Matthew Bushwacka is a fantastic producer. You've probably been blown away by something he's done at one point or another. This is a nice little break-beat joint. The catchy bass-line will get you moving, or at the very least, nodding your head. A party record, for sure.

Ant- "Process Cyan Min"

Mental. Straight up techno here, folks. With a commanding, driving beat, it's really banging, but in a wonderful way... and the twisted, slightly off melody keeps it interesting. This would tear the roof off any place; playing it means that you're not messing around.

Lanoiraude- "J.J. Scenario"

This is another great, squeaky, upbeat gem. This track really tells a story for me; it's the kind of track that can allow you get lost in your own imagination. You think it's funky and cool and easygoing, and that's great, but then the breakdown comes in, and it's so beautiful it makes you want to weep.

Earth Deuley- "Spacial Gathering"

This is an "oh hell yeah this is good" kind of track. The bass-line is bubbly and funky. The whole thing reminds me of carousel music on shrooms. I have this thing about carnival music, it drives me wild.

The Silence- "Acid Attack"

Nice acidy techno track. James has a knack for picking tracks that give you a brain buzz. It drags on a tiny bit but that makes for some nice, long mixing. This is another one that will raise your heart rate a bit.

Natural Rhythm- "Your World"

I'm not really crazy about this one. It has some nice qualities; it's pleasant enough, and has some nice spacey effects. It's laid back and kind of groovy, it just doesn't really curl my toes. There are some soulful vocals that you will probably either love or hate; guess which side of that fence I'm on?

The "Sound in Motion" vinyl pack is an outstanding representation of the compilation. There is a good mix of the big tracks and the unsigned gems that give this mix the texture that makes it so great. I am not the kind of person who goes out and buys this kind of thing normally; Vinyl packs often get overexposed and the tracks included have a very short shelf life. However, the tracks are so unique and diverse that I really don't see that happening here.
