SINNER / MAGIC KINGDOM

|
Scandinavian based duo 'Slusnik Luna' consists of Niko Nyman and Nicklas Renqvist. They have recently remixed tracks for labels such as Vandit and Tsunami and are now here with the long-awaited follow-up to their debut single 'Sun'. Sinner starts with a massive acid line which builds up to introduce the bass-line and the basic drum-loop. Not very friendly to mix but works really well as an intro. The track builds on a very trancy string part which really reminds me of the 99 days. Supported by some aggressive percussion sounds, another melody is introduced towards the break. During the climax Sinner builds on the string that was already present. I really like the overall feel of the track which successfully places you back in the memorable days of trance music, but I do miss a certain punchy drive just after the breakdown. If they had worked on this I really would have loved it. The flip side, Magic Kingdom, works its way around a very funky bass-line. A rich line up of effects and audio edits guide the track into the break. I must say the drive is more present in this track, giving it a more solid danceable basis. In the break another massive ?99 riff is introduced, recognisable Slusnik Luna's work. The overall feel of this track is very original, a trancy melody combined with funky, almost acid like sounds. Both tracks are produced very well, not at all in a standard way and with plenty variation to keep them interesting. As mentioned before, if the drive had been a bit more punchy and present, I had rewarded them higher. After all the drive is what I think makes a track work in a club. | |
