Based in Australia, Infamous Light Recordings is one of a raft of new record labels foregoing the vagaries of the vinyl market and offering their releases as MP3s only, courtesy of sites such as EDM Digital and Beatport. This method allows them to put the emphasis on the music, rather than manufacturing costs and artwork, and if the Feng Shui EP is anything to go by, this approach is working.

Discosaurus is a techy affair, with twisted synths and a bass-line to match. The pads are high-pitched and float through the track to great effect.

Cobra is a futuristic progressive workout, with a superb synth sound I just can't get enough of! As with Discosaurus, the pads drift cut through the music like a razor and add a spooky, ethereal feel to proceedings. This is a strong track and should receive support from a wide variety of DJs.

My favourite track, Somnaural, oozes acidic like a leaking battery (or is that alkali? I failed science at school). The arpeggio twinkles and swirls whilst pads and percussion drive the track on into a peak time frenzy. The old skool flavour is not hard to detect, but this is a modern, forward-thinking piece and is the strongest here.

Physics Girl is the most pumping track of the lot. It is not hard to detect influences from both the techno and psychedelic trance scenes here, with these elements woven intricately together on top of a pumping bass-line. Intelligent dance-floor fodder that will gain plays from the prog, tech and trance fraternities alike.

This is a real winner from Infamous Light. 23-year-old Jairus Miller's debut release shows youthful exuberance, a willingness to experiment, and musical maturity beyond his years.
