Deep Records originally released Matthew Dekay's If I Could Fly in 2003 when progressive was very prominent and one of the most popular genres in the scene. The track is being re-released along with some fresh new remixes five years later and it will hit the shelves on November 19th, 2008. The artists selected for the remixes are none other than Darin Epsilon, Gringo Gomes, Kosmas Epsilon, Patch Park, and Sebastian Davidson.

Kicking off the release is Darin Epsilon's remix and it starts off with a fuzzy hiss with a bass line that sneaks in and is ever increasing in volume. The percussion and hit hats are carefully added and a screaming pad creeps in and takes the beat away in a spacey direction. The tracks progression is amazingly winding and atmospheric with strategic layering topped of by the clashing of the metal cowbell around in the background while the blips bounce around in the foreground. There is so much going on by the time the track builds up its difficult to hone in on any one melody. The kicks are hard and full of flavor and the track sounds more and more promising as it continues to play. It was quite entertaining till the very end. The sounds of melodic progressive house are pleasing to my ears. My mind is instantly awakened, and I am very curious as to what kind of interpretation I will hear next.

Next up is the Gringo Gomes remix, and it is a funkier style of hard-hitting house with some techno influences. The melody is very original and on a completely different level than the last remix I heard but it is not what I was expecting. The bass is bouncy yet warped, and twisted. The percussion has a Congo sounding vibe. The mood on this track is certainly unusual, and eclectic. I can appreciate its elements individually although combined in this fashion it isn't my type of sound.

Greek producer Kosmas Epsilon brings the catchy feeling back with his remix. He brings it with a rolling bass line, some sharp kicks, and an organ-like pad. We are back on track on the house tip once again. This is definitely one tech-house banger using some crazy tuning effects as the stabbing lead synth does its job. The breakdown sets a tone that makes you eagerly look forward to the drop. After the drop yet an additional sweeping melody comes in with some inspiring hits.

Patch Parks remix starts off with a simple four by four kick and subtle hi-hats. This mix progresses at a steady and easygoing rate and the warm percussion and bass flourish slowly to the foreground only to be graced by a techno synth similar to the Moog as the tempo and energy continue to increase. He flips it around and plays with the effects in multiple ways. I am digging this mix as well even though the melody is not as capturing as some of the previous mixes I just heard.

Last but not least we have the Sebastian Davidson mix and he starts off with a tribal percussion and a grumbling and echoed male vocal with heavy effects added to it. This is the deepest house mix out of the bunch and the bass line is nice and fat. The pads in the background set a nice toasty atmosphere enhancing the feeling of the track. While this is no peak time track it's still very cool to groove to. The track has a silent moment towards the end, and just when you think its over it comes back for one last surprising sweep of hissing air to close it out proper.

The remixes I enjoyed the most were the Darin Epsilon and Kosmas Epsilon remixes. It's a funny coincidence that my favorite remixer's on this single share a similar alias name. For those that are unaware, no…they are not related. Nor is Epsilon their real last name.
