'Never one to follow the crowd, it is clear that the track is doing serious damage in the clubs, and is not simply a marketing gimmick.'

One of the selling points of new DJ technology is its ability to allow DJs to do more in less time. Using programmes like Ableton, DJs can now loop and chop up tracks in the mix infinitely quicker than is humanly possible with traditional turntables. Chilean DJ Ricardo Villalobos has decided to take a different approach however.

Never one to follow the crowd, it is clear that the latest Ricardo Villalobos' track entitled Fizheuer Zieheuer is doing serious damage in the clubs, and is not simply a marketing gimmick. Even though it is surely the longest stretched-out techno track in history, the reactions are large. Apparently, after ten minutes or so a huge brass sound kicks in and really gets the place alight.

The track, which has been closing Villalobos' sets all summer, including his Awakenings set in July in Amsterdam, is being praised by DJs for being as effective as it is unusual. Recent EPs have seen Villalobos stretching out his productions for longer and longer, but this time at thirty-seven minutes, Fizheuer Zieheuer even spills off the vinyl halfway though, with the second half playing on the B-side.

Ricardo Villalobos' is widely regarded as one of the global driving forces of minimal techno, with gigs at clubs and festivals worldwide and a steady stream of solid productions. His new Perlon double-pack 12” What's Wrong With My Friends? arrives next month and Lo-Fi Stereo have also re-released his seminal 1998 single Heike.

Ricardo Villalobos' epic Fizheuer Zieheuer is released on vinyl and CD from 6th November on Playhouse. It's worth noting that a recent James Zabiela 30 minute mix included nearly 40 tracks, well, a whole half hour set could be yours simply by purchasing this track!

30mins, why not? :-) Reminds me a bit of Sasha's original edit of 'Ohmna', which wasn't a quickie as well.

Did he fall asleep with his sequencer on, or something?
