One of the Netherland's biggest dance music & lifestyle magazines, Release, is reportedly considering to pull the plug. According to the rumors, the last issue appears this week.

The suspected reason for the rumored cancellation is a combination of declining sales and large investments. Release initially started out as a communication outlet for ID&T, informing national clubbers about all the ins and outs of the global dance music scene on a monthly basis, but the original set-up was not able to attract the number of subscriptions and sales needed. Earlier this year, the concept and formula changed to attract a wider audience, with the magazine appearance being brought back to eight times per year.

Although this new strategy was well received within the first few months, the magazine soon faced stormy weather as profits and investments couldn't cover overhead costs. Founder of ID&T Duncan Stutterheim: “The magazine has been running on an independent basis from this summer, but the last three months have seen a dramatic drop of sales. After investing in a glossy lifestyle magazine for a couple of years, things are now coming to an end.”

Despite these statements, any official message regarding the fate of the magazine is still lacking. Fact is that magazines, not only in the Netherlands are facing a tough time, as earlier reports in financial trouble at DJ Mag point in a similar direction.
