London-based independant label Buzzin Fly has had a year to remember. The imprint, founded by Everything But The Girl & Lazy Dog's Ben Watt, has crashed onto the scene in a big way in 2006, with Pete Tong and John Digweed giving heavyweight backing to the label's releases of late.

Ben's track Lone Cat (Holding On) kicked off the label three years ago. Since then, the label has been growing in stature, but has arguably really made an impact in the last 12 months, with tracks such as Mind Games from Abyss doing the business globally. The track is currently in the DJ charts of the spinners that matter, after being played by Pete Tong on his Radio One show and being picked by John Digweed for his new Transitions 2 compilation that will come out in January 2007. Digweed crucially begins the mix with Mind Games, before launching into a second Abyss track, also on Buzzin Fly, called The Dreamer. It is rare to have two tracks from the same artist or label on one CD.

Perhaps the appeal of the Buzzin Fly sound, in particular the Abyss output, are the almost rave-like qualities; a stripped down minimal throbbing bass-line that builds into epic chords; if ever a record could sum up a year in dance than look no further.

Abyss aside, tracks that are doing damage on the world's top dance-floor are Darkmountaingroup's Lose Control, Jimpster's Square Up and Rocco's Roots 4 Acid. Rodamaal's Insomnia featured on Sandy Riviera's Renaissance CD recently and shows the label's versatilty, from progressive and minimal to scorching, tense house, peak time tunage for the sleaziest clubs from New York, London and Shangai.
