THE KILLERS COVER DIRE STRAITS

Las Vegas band The Killers, for some the Best British band to come from America, have covered a track from Dire Straits. The band, known for its crossover appeal was formed back in 2002 and is made up of lead singer Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning Mark Stoermer Ronnie Vannucci Jr., and has enjoyed mainstream success since 2004, in particular with their track Somebody Told Me.

For a special broadcast on British TV station Channel 4, the Killers were invited to London's famous Abbey Road studios, to do a cover of their own choosing. Lead Singer Brand Flowers said there was no doubt it had to be Romeo and Juliet of Dire Straits “ One of the best songs I have ever heard”

Earlier, the Killers, who have often been remixed by dance artists in the past, recorded a cover version of Joy Division's Shadowplay, for the movie Control, about Ian Curtis. In an interview, Brandon Flowers' claimed that his favorite band of all time is the Strokes.

In case you are in the neighborhood, the Killers are performing in Amsterdam's Heineken Music Hall on March 7th, as part of their European tour. It is unknown whether their Dire Straits cover will be played or not.
