(Amsterdam, NL) - American rapper Jay-Z is intent to start a club in Amsterdam, at the Rembrandtplein. Named after his 40-40 club in New York, which is in turn named after the very special achievement of 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single baseball season, aim of the club is to draw a new urban crowd, irrespective of origin or ethnicity.

The location, the former grounds of legendary club IT, which was torn down recently, is a spot laden with controversy, as IT was a cornerstone in the Amsterdam gay clubbing circuit. According to one of Jay Z's manager, chances are 'roughly 80%' that the plans become a reality, with more details being presented today.

The New York branch in the franchise is a sports bar during daytime, and club during night time. As Jay-Z put it "I love sports and wanted to create an environment that is conducive to match my lifestyle, while watching the games at the same time,". Whether Amsterdam's edition will be as successful as its American counterpart in attracting urban celebrities is yet to be seen, but fact is that Amsterdam may well be in dire need of a suitable gay clubbing alternative…
