AMSTERDAM SAYS FAREWELL TO DJ DIMITRI
| ||
|
'After a whopping 23 years behind the decks, Dimitri, real name Dimitri Kneppers, is the first dutch superstar-dj to call it quits.' | (Amsterdam, NL) - Dance music is a relatively new phenomenon, but some DJ's have been around from the start. One of them is dutch DJ-Dimitri, and he has just announced his 'retreat' from the scene. Rather than a job in A&R, or within a club, he opts for a more 'immaterial' career route, as he is currently working on an organic farm, aiding a group of disabled children. After a whopping 23 years behind the decks, Dimitri, real name Dimitri Kneppers, is the first dutch Superstar-DJ to call it quits. The man behind the legendary Roxy nights in Amsterdam, but also with a former residency at the now closed Twilo nightclub in New York, long before the likes of Sasha and Digweed came to the stage, has announced that 'enough is enough'. As he commented himself, his new job is a true liberation, setting a positive example for those that are about to follow him. Nevertheless, there is still a chance to catch him behind the decks. During Joost van Bellen's Meubelstukken 10 year anniversary at Amsterdam's NDSM warf, on September 1st, Dimitri will step up for one last time. |

4 Reactions I think not many people realize how important Dimitri has been for dance music nowadays. But he has really been an inspiration to so many of the stars of today and even more clubbers. He will be missed and in a way it is sad to see him go, but his initiative to start a new life is also very inspirational. He has been my Dutch hero and will continue to be so, because his DJ sets were simply beautiful and breath taking. The Dutch DJ Sasha says it all.. Take care! DJ Dimitri was European favourite DJ maestro! Living extravagant and very hard working DJ life ! Most of todays' superstars DJs like Cox Darick May and many more respect him in a special way. He was real The DJS DJ! But more than anything he was The clubbers delight! Good and happy life Maestro Dimitri !!! Please spin your records for time to time exclusives!!! Just for the joy of people who LOVE YOU! Well said Rob! He played a special set @ Mysteryland, with Beautiful Life of Gui Boratto and Aril Brikha's - Winter as typical new Dimitri records, full with soul and love. I have so many good memories listening to his unique style of music/dj'ing. His words 'Don't be a prisoner of your own style' are nowadays more true than ever before and a good advice for a lot of DJs! And he truly is a free man making this choice in helping other less fortunate people. Much love for Dimitri! Absolute legend - he blew me away at club risk in 1997 - five hour solo set! All the best Dimitri!
