'The priority for me is to continue making hot records. People are playing what I'm into - I'm developing a broader taste.' Yousef

(London, UK) - He can hold his breath for… no, just kidding, it's not what it sounds like. Yousef, the mighty Liverpullian house maestro, has mixed a new compilation for Darren Emerson's Underwater imprint. We decided to have a listen…

Yousef has used his participation in the Underwater Solo Series to highlight all the different sounds he brings together to make up a single three-hour set. A past master of Cream's Liverpool heyday - and its Ibiza jaunts - Yousef is now the main man at his own club Circus, one of Liverpool's best nights of jackin' house…and a touch of everything else too.

There are many of the Scouse house man's 2007 favourites here: Trentemøller's African People, Layo & Bushwacka!'s Ride The Train and especially the opener Instone by DK 7 have been burning up Yousef's sets at Space this Ibiza season, so it's good to see them all captured on this double-CD collection.

However, it can take a certain distance from the party to put together a successful mix, and that's what the Yousef claims he now has; the wildest days - and nights - of partying, he claims, are now behind him. "The priority for me is to continue making hot records. People are playing what I'm into - I'm developing a broader taste."

And it's with that we should note the presence of Yousef's own material here - his Approach mixes wonderfully into Timeless by Matthew Dekay, while the end of the second CD sees two tracks of his back-to-back, his take on Spooky mixed with Quentin Harris' U Don't Know Me, which is then ably followed by My Own Best Self - which a certain Mr Carl Cox has been hammering this summer season, we're told. And if you doubt Coxy's opinion, well, you can be the one to confront him, ok?
