Rapster's new compilation, Discovered, is essential for anyone who's a fan of Daft Punk…

(New York City, USA) - Daft Punk rock - that much is a given. However, the notorious duo of French dance music are also some of the smartest samplers in the business; using old-school disco hooks to propel themselves to stardom, if that's what you can call their robot-suit clad antics these days. But before they 'didn't do cameras' without their spacesuits, they did old school sounds with a new beat. If you're curious as to where the sounds from Aerodynamic and Digital Love came from, this is the compilation you need to check out.

Rapster's new compilation, Discovered, is essential for anyone who's a fan of Daft Punk…which is practically all dance music fans. While there may be the detractors (who think they've sold out / gone commercial / were always a bit cheesy etc), most people think that the work of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo is filtered disco funk of the highest order; and the mainstream world agrees, they really don't care. Sometimes going with the grain is as just the right thing to do.

But back to the music - let's just say that DJ-based music has always had a strong love of sampling, so their plundering of various classic bits of disco and funk is nothing new. Kanye West's career is a perfect example of the hip-hop community being happy seeking inspiration from what has gone before…such as when he sampled Daft Punk's Aerodynamic, on his recent hit Stronger. But where did they get that fantastic break? The answer's right here, as Discovered gives you the roots of all their Daft classics.

Track-list:

  1. Breakwater - Release The Beast (Robot Rock)
  2. George Duke - I Love You More (Digital Love)
  3. Edwin Birdsong - Cola Bottle Baby (Harder, Better, Stronger, Faster)
  4. Cerrone - Supernature (Verdis Quo)
  5. Tata Vega - Get It Up For Love (Da Funk)
  6. Karen Young - Hot Shot (Indo Silver Club)
  7. Chaka Khan - Fate (Music Sounds Better With You - by Stardust)
  8. Sister Sledge - II Macquillage Lady (Aerodynamic)
  9. Oliver Cheatham - Get Down Saturday Night (Voyager)
  10. Eddie Johns - I Put A Spell On You (One More Time)
  11. Little Anthony & The Imperials - Can You Imagine (Crescendolls)
  12. Jerry Goldsmith - The Rec Room (Around The World)

'It's hard not to perceive a slightly malicious intent behind this (unofficial, I should add) compilation that collects songs that Daft Punk have sampled, because listening to this disc will make your reassess the French duo's musical prowess
