'In order to maximise the feeling of the music, sometimes we have to subtract.' (Robert Hood comments on minimal music)

(Detroit, USA) - Aw hell yeah!. Living legend and one of our all time techno heroes Robert Hood will re-issue his 1994 album Minimal Nation, widely considered one of the most important techno albums ever made and the blueprint of minimal music as we know it today. The 10-track masterpiece will hit stores on 15 June and will include two very rare extra tracks. Read on!

Next to having become an iconic release, Minimal Nation is one of the very first 'minimal' albums ever produced. But mind you, we're not talking about Hawtin-esque clickety-clack minimal house here. It's Detroit techno all the way, stripped down to its bare essence with not much more than floor rocking 909's and old-school synths doing the business here. Or as Rob Nash of The Sunday Times likes to put it: "minimal's roots go further back, it was invented in 1994, not 2004, and in Detroit, not Berlin. " Hood has been experimenting with this sound ever since he left Underground Resistance in 1992: "I was fooling around with the Juno 2 keyboard and came across this chord sound; once I had that chord sound and a particular pattern I realized I didn't need anything else. In order to maximise the feeling of the music, sometimes we have to subtract."

The Special Edition (re-mastered) of Minimal Nation will feature two extra bombs: the unreleased SH-101 and the very rare Self Powered, which only appeared on the Axis test press. The album is on heavy rotation here at the 365 Tower ever since we got our mitts on the promo copy, and we can not say anything else than that the album still sounds up to date, especially with the whole Detroit revival going on at the moment. Essential stuff for techno freaks, word.

Track-list:

  1. One Touch
  2. Museum
  3. SH.101
  4. Rhythm Of Vision
  5. Unix
  6. Ride
  7. Station Rider E
  8. Self Powered
  9. Sleep Cycle
  10. Rhythm Of Vision (Original)

Robert Hood's Minimal Nation (Special Edition) will be released on 15 June on M-Plant.
