The Good: Divvy it up
There seems to be loads of new ways to get your music and mixes heard around the world via the internet, and even more places to find great new music from other like-minded folks like for instance www.365mag.com, all sorts of internet radio stations, or even places like www.myspace.com. Often times though, the artists and DJ's making the music are unable to benefit from spreading the sounds they love. One new way to go though, for DJ's, producers, bands and other music-minded folks looking to squeeze a few bucks out of that mix everyone can't stop downloading, or get a little income from marketing your hot new tracks is www.Divvycast.com. Basically it is the marriage of music and podcasting, with a little advertising thrown in to provide the profits so the fans still get it free. The brainchild is Bobby McFarland, a DJ and producer formerly of L'amour Records, now mostly the head honcho of this newfangled venture.

" Then, if you have enough fans downloading your podcast mix or your new tracks, an ad gets tacked on and your pockets eventually get filled."

After a little over a year of development, Divvycast is up and running and with podcasting really taking off it is right on time. Club-music-wise it is a perfect little tool to take advantage of the internet in a way most DJs and most producers do already, but with the added possibility of making a few bucks for once. The process is simple; you sign up for a free account at the main website, create a podcast, load it to your website, your Myspace page, internet forums, etc. Then, if you have enough fans downloading your podcast mix or your new tracks, an ad gets tacked on and your pockets eventually get filled. 365mag.com is even getting in on the act with their own podcasting program in addition to Om Records and more and more DJ's and producers every day. The really, truly Good about this for NY nightlife is that it is finally a way for hard-working, unknown local DJ's everywhere to make a few bucks off “the man” while still sticking with the great underground sounds they love.

The bad: The Super-Club Shake
So a little over a year ago we tried to make heads and tails of the moving and shaking of clubs opening, closing, rumored, and rotated. I don't know how but once again we are about to try to figure out everyone's favorite game “Super-Club Hijinx!”

The new spots:
The not so new Duvet which used to be Centro-Fly now does have a great brand new Friday party from the East Side Productions Boys called Motion. Flow which used to be a cheesy bottle service joint has been taken over by Shelter, and Stereo from Montreal is opening a New York “office” with Angel Morales in charge at the space that used to be Octagon back in the day.

The trouble spots:
Spirit and Avalon have been closed a few times only to re-open and the Roxy and Happy Valley are at risk of going the way of ARC as overeager real estate developers in their respective neighborhoods want to turn the spots into condos.

The top spots:
Love, Cielo, and Sullivan Room remain the most consistent and enjoyable venues crowd and music-wise with little trouble following them. Pacha too has started to come on strong with some very exciting bookings and fun parties.

With so many clubs and so much drama, we have decided to make an easy to understand list in an effort to figure out the dangers to some of NYC's top joints.

" ...the most charming doorgirl you've ever been turned away by..."

In analyzing the statistics, we at The Good, The Bad and The Messy have determined that the biggest dangers to club goers nowadays is not homicidal bouncers, nor promoters taking your name off the list, or even going blind from the flood lights on 27th Street… No, the biggest things that can ruin the fun are out of control real estate moguls, cracked out underage Guidos, and of course, the accountants from the IRS.

One last bad this week is one of the coolest, funnest, funniest, and most wonderful NYC party people is heading home to Florida for good. That's right, the queen of the after-hours, the belle of the DJ booth, the most charming doorgirl you've ever been turned away by, the Trampassador herself, the beautiful Dane'lle is ditching town. Anyone who has had the pleasure of partying alongside her will miss her, but don't fret too much because she will be sure to visit and once again put us all to shame with her nightlife shenanigans.

The Messy: Fall Fun
Bust out your new bad-ass jackets, because cooler times are back as fall, NYC's prime season of clubbing returns. This past month had a slew of great and varied parties including Jeff Mills and Danny Howells at Pacha on consecutive nights and the Halloween bash at Shelter with Lee Burridge was a wicked good time as well. Mark Farina at Cielo, King Unique at Motion and an underground B-day bash in Brooklyn with local badasses Derek Plaslaiko, Chris McNaughty, Taimur Agha, and more were also great parties and I can honestly say Adam Beyer at APT was the most fun I have ever had listening to techno on a Tuesday night. But the best music I have heard in months was this weekend at Love with DB and Jason Jinx dropping an classic House set which included back to back Armand Van Helden remixes with Professional Widow and Sugar is Sweeter as well as Basement Jaxx Red Alert among a slew of other old school gems that had the crowd “Sweatin to the Oldies” according to Doc Martin who took over and absolutely ripped the roof off the spot for good measure.

On the horizon are loads of big events with Ian Pooley at Sullivan Room on November 18th as the most anticipated. Love brings in Roy Davis Jr. with a rare NY appearance the same night. Thanksgiving weekend is suitably stuffed with good times with Loce Dice at Cielo on 11/24 and Lee Burridge returning to Shelter with M.A.N.D.Y. on 11/25. Other big events down the line are the Robots monthly at Cielo with Matthew Dear on 11/30, Pete Heller coming to Sullivan Room on 12/2, Jimmy Van M with Desyn Masiello at Cielo on 11/17 and Danny and Danny (Krivit and Tenaglia) at 718 Sessions at Pacha Sunday Dec. 10th.
