MOVEMENT GOES GREEN AND BREAKS ATTENDANCE RECORDS
| ||
|
Movement keeps growing bigger and bigger and supporters are showing strength in numbers. This years Movement Festival in Detroit gathered a record of 83,322 attendees from all over the world on Memorial Day breaking the record for attendance from last year. “Movement 2009 was an overwhelming success on so many levels,” said festival producer Jason Huvaere. “People loved the lineup of performances we were able to put together this year. Our sponsors and vendors really stepped up this year despite the tough economy. The recycling program surpassed last year's totals for collected items. And we had great weather the entire weekend, which definitely contributed to the record-breaking turnout. As far as events like this go, in our eyes it could not have gone any better.” It has been steadily increasing in popularity since the festival first began in 2006. The numbers for 2006 were approximately 40,000 and even more in 2007 at 45,000, and 2008 attracted a total of over 78,000 party goers and the event population began being tracked through turnstiles as well as hand held clickers. Along with this great announcement Movement would also like everyone to know that they are continually making a conscious effort to go green. At this years festival they accumulated four tons (8,000 pounds) of recyclable materials over the course of three days. Partnering with Paxahau and Recycle Detroit their efforts proved to be quite valuable with the hard work of 100 volunteers. “We were very pleased to have Sarah and her Recycle Detroit volunteers be apart of Movement again this year,” said Huvaere. “They have single-handedly taken the festival's recycling program to the next level. Recycle Detroit is a great organization.” | |
